A Moment of Thankfulness

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
I Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV

Yesterday many of us went to parades or picnics on our day off. Maybe we slowed down just enough to recall those who gave their lives for what our flag stands for.

As Americans we love to think of ourselves as independent and free. But it is so easy to fall into selfishness complaining and wishing we had more of what our neighbors have. God waits for thankfulness.

Before rushing off to Dunkin Donuts for coffee and while our hand is reaching for the car keys why not use the moment to find one thing for which we can give thanks? It may not change the headlines but it will change heart.

God’s Grace in Humility

Two kinds of rabbits on my morning walk today. One behind the fence knows his limits and weaknesses and is quick to the burrow when danger comes by. The other on the outside and free goes wherever he wants leaving his home far behind. He is sure that since he is a rabbit that he will always be able to hop away faster than any enemy. That will be true only until he is surprised by the dog he doesn’t see till too late!

God is asking us just what kind of f rabbit are we?

Power To Make a Difference

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 ESV

Sometimes we talk about our gifts and calling as if they provided exciting experiences that God has prepared exclusively for us. But in fact God’s power has been given to us for others. The book of Acts if filled with stories of doors God opened for the disciples to go and make a difference in the life of all kinds of people.

Peter, John, Stephen and Paul each were sent to make a difference in the lives all kinds different people by the same Holy Spirit. In nursing home ministry we are given the chance to make a difference one life at a time by the power of the love of Jesus Christ!

Who has God given you the awesome chance to go and share that amazing wonderful news of Christ today?
