Late August is the time to bring the last of the harvest into the barn. Everything we leave undone will be lost forever to the frost and wind.
A wise youth harvests in the summer,
but one who sleeps during harvest is a disgrace. Proverbs 10:5
When darkness veils His lovely face I rest on His unchanging grace… Edward Mote
When storm clouds threaten to swallow whole the blue skies of our hopes and dreams we are being given an opportunity to experience God’s grace. When sorrow seems ready to choke out all the joy from our hearts and we feel the tears knocking at our door, then God alone becomes our all. He is the one who rides on those very clouds to come near to us.
He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind Psalm 104:3
As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. 1 Peter 1:24
In the small distance between the bloom and the petal-fall is our moment to decide how we will live. Will we choose to cling with all our might to what is fading or will we open our hand and let go. Jesus chose in His prayer in the garden to give all….
He only says, ‘Good fences make good neighbors’.
Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder
If I could put a notion in his head:
‘Why do they make good neighbors?…Robert Frost
Sometimes God himself draws the lines in our lives and one part of our heart longs for the “greener grass” which lies beyond His choice for us. But if we can be alone with Him just long enough to hear His quiet voice we will gently bow and say with King David …
The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. Psalm 116:6
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
He looks like he is ready to fly away but those two small feet will be able to run until I fall over and still not seem weary till he falls asleep at night. The older I grow the more I appreciate the joy and energy of our youngest grandchildren. They are a reminder to our hearts that only when we wait on God can we find the strength to walk and run and fly!
