Just over the hilltop

In that bright land where

We’ll never grow old     Ira Stanphill   1949

“Mansion over the Hilltop” is one of the favorite songs among our people at the nursing home, as we sing together on Wednesday afternoons. For people facing the reality of nursing home life, turning to the hope that Christ has to offer, is a ray of sunshine during during their dark moments. For family members struggling to understand how to help their Mom, Dad, sister or brother, God stands ready and willing to enter into their daily battles.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Beating the Heat!

Isaiah 35:1-2 The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus,  it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy

While her weaker cousins are wilting or just plain cashing in their blooms till next year this Salvia sylvestris is only beginning to show her true colors. KIMG0187

“When the going gets tough the tough get going”  Knute Rockne

With a touch of both toughness and beauty this flower gives her all to ensure that the gardening season isn’t over. God created both her delicate flowers and tough roots so that on the hottest summer days she will stand proud and strong. If you are facing some wilting heat in your life maybe the sister Salvia can encourage you to stay strong. The same God who understands how to beat the summer heat in the garden knows how to help us beat the heat in the desert places of our lives!

Really Free

And you will will know the truth and the truth will set you free. John 8:32

We greatly appreciated the chance to see the Statue of liberty for the first time last week. It not only is an amazing place so intertwined with our history in America it has an equally important story.

It was touching to realize that people from not only France but from around the world gave donations to help bring the Statue to New York harbor. Freedom is a hope and longing for us all. At the exit from the museum there was a plaque listing sayings about freedom. Martin Luther King Jr, Gandhi, and many others I didn’t recognize were each quoted. Most of the ideas seemed good and appropriate but I so wished to see something from the greatest liberator of all time, Jesus Christ. Everyone else seems to be given their honor except Him.

But 2000 years ago it was no different. Everyone else was honored while Jesus was crucified. But He died neither angry nor heartbroken. He breathed His last finished His work and purchased true freedom for anyone who will trust Him with their heart! What are you going to do with the precious gift of real freedom He offers you today?

Approaching Storm

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

More Vital than military power, more valuable than our gold reserves in Fort Knox is our freedom to worship in Spirit and in truth. The storm clouds approaching can drive us to despair or they can lead us to prayer.
