When The Woodpecker Went to Work

The cardinals were singing
While the hawk sat on his perch
All the pigeons were just sleeping in
When woodpecker went to work!

And his tapping kept reminding me
I still have a job to do
And just sitting round and dreaming
Is not what God has planned to do

For even though He gives us song
And to rest awhile is fine
He still has more for us in store
To do in Summertime

For there’s a garden we must plant
With rows to weed and tend
And water with our tears and prayers
Till His kingdom come again

Peace Comes in the Morning

As Christians, we have God’s promise that He will watch over us, but last night, instead of sleeping, I gave God most of the night off! Instead of praying and trusting Him, I stayed up for hours worrying about one of our grandchildren. The peace that Jesus had promised me seemed far away and I didn’t know why. Then after tossing and turning till the early morning hours, Jesus reminded me that true peace is only in Him. He has not promised me a peace that is like a personal possession. His peace only becomes real in my life as I choose Him to be my life. The million-dollar question is; how does that work? Now the answer is almost as amazing as the promise. It is by faith and that faith is both a gift and a miracle. God gives us this faith so that we can choose to put our lives in the hands of Jesus Christ. There in His hands, our lives are hidden in Him no matter what life throws our way and in Him is a peace that comes and carries us through till morning!

When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Colossians 3:4 ESV

One Loaf of Bread

Even if God showers us
With ten thousand days times three
We cannot save a single one
For ourselves keep

Like manna in the wilderness
He gives one loaf each day
And asks us with our neighbor to
 Share it along the way

But when we hoard it is a sin
An unbelieving seed
And traveling with that visitor
Are worry, stress and greed

Till soon that good, sweet manna
Turns to be as dry as sand
Until we joyfully accept
What God puts into our hands

Then by His daily miracle
He teaches us to trust
That even just one loaf of bread
In God’s own hand is much!

Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written,
‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat'
John 6:31 ESV
