A Place Called Home – Song

Sometimes advice is tough to take because what is being suggested seems really hard (or even impossible) to do. So when Barbara of My Life in Our Father’s World asked if I couldn’t write music for a poem I posted last week I thanked her for the idea but inwardly just shrugged it off. But somehow I knew my impulse was wrong on a number of levels so I began to pray and ask God if He had something more in mind than I did…(Dumb question!) You see the real issue was that the reality behind the words to this poem, now turned song, is a very painful one. I had been in five different places in three different states by the time first grade came along. My younger sister and I moved so often that it was hard to remember our phone number (No cell phones back then). But all through the avalanche of changes, God was watching and waiting for me to find in Him the home that He had prepared. And though the scars of that time remain, I can truthfully say how glad I am to know Jesus in a unique way because of that journey. I pray you will be blessed as you listen. For anyone struggling with some of those same issues I pray that you truly find that home Jesus promised when He said.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. John 14:3 ESV

A Place To Call a Home

A Place To Call a Home

I've been so many places as we moved from town to town
So many different addresses
I can hardly write them down

And sometimes wondered what it's like
To call one spot a home
Turning neighbor into friends
With whom we've played and fought and grown

But home is not just where we sleep
Or know the names of streets
Or even just a steeple where
We've gone for Sunday meets

But going where the Shepherd calls
And leads us on the way
It's lying down and waking up
With God at peace today

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. Psalm 139:17-18 KJV

God of the Plans

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

God of the Plans

To understand the plans of God and walk the way He said
Had always been a hope for me
Since I was just a kid

But life's great complications
Like children, bills and wife
And all my dumb decisions
Left me in a mess of strife

I couldn't seem to get a grip
Of God's great plan for me
And live a life like saints of old
Who always seemed to be
Accomplishing a lot for Him
Who died on Calvary

My struggles swept me far from shore
Till I felt lost at sea
And then I heard my Savior say
Just trust and follow Me!
