New Sunrise – New Mercy

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning Lamentations 3:22

Did you ever stop to think that while the sun sets on this side of the earth it is rising on the other? At the same time that the sun is setting on one day it is is about to dawn on another. In the midst of this current world wide pandemic or in the middle of a personal crisis we may find ourselves at a dead end, but God does not. He never runs out of new ideas a new sunrise or new mercy.  One of the greatest promises in the Bible is God’s mercy through our Lord Jesus Christ. God’s mercies are always new and have not altered over time. They have no expiration date! God isn’t worn out from trying to get His mission accomplished and He never changes.  So even if it feels as if the sun is setting on all your hopes and dreams; God’s mercies are ever new and His new mercy is promised on your horizon.

Still a Revolutionary Idea!

On this National Day of Prayer I thought it appropriate to return to where the founders began on July 4, 1776.

“We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”  Declaration of Independence

  • As we pray we must humbly remember that everything we have comes from God
  • As we pray we must believe that God will hear and answer prayer just as he did for the signers of The Declaration of Independence.
  • As we pray we should ask not only for God’s help for us but also for what He would want  us to do to help for others.
  • As we pray we must always remember that we are His creation and that without Him nothing else matters. No prosperity will ever be enough, no success can be final and no joy will last unless we put our trust in Him.

In God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me? Psalm 56:11

On this 7th of May in 2020 in the middle of the Corona Virus Pandemic, it continues to be true that trusting God is still a revolutionary idea!

Resting at The Well

Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” John 4:6-7

When we think of the story of the woman at the well most of us picture a bucolic scene by some quiet spot among the lovely hills of Samaria. But more likely the scene at the well was busy with people coming and going because water is something that everyone needs. Often the case is made that the well was deserted at noontime and the woman was alone but it could have been a scene more like the pool of Bethesda with people crowding around on every side. Yet in that busy place Jesus rested and waited for one woman to come.

If our day seems cluttered and overcrowded with no place to rest. Jesus reminds us that our outward circumstances have nothing to do with our ability to rest and wait. It is not only possible but desperately necessary for us to rest at a well at what may seem to be the most inopportune times. While we push forward in our activities with another cup of coffee or another shot of our favorite energy drink, Jesus is calling us to come to rest both physically and spiritually. You will need to rest and to wait by the well because someone is passing by who needs a drink of water that only He can give but only you are holding the cup.
