Finding Hope

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, Ephesians 1:18 KJV

My friend’s voice sounded somewhere between hopeless and amused as he told me about waking up on Mother’s day to find snow on deck. Maybe dragging into this 8th week of shutdown you are also running a bit low on hope. Today Paul reminds us that our greatest hope is in heaven because that is the place God has promised His people. Our great hope on earth begins where Jesus suffered on the cross for our free gift of salvation. But our great hope right here and right now is put to work when we love others in daily practical ways. Together we share a common hope and finding feet to wash may be the best medicine for hopelessness because it gives earthly reality to the heavenly hope we have in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Mother’s Day Hymns

This will be a Mother’s Day unlike any other at Nursing Homes around the nation. No special family visits, no taking mom out to eat or even bringing her flowers. In our community we will be able to do a drive by parade (Thank God the weather is nice). We will have signs to wave and we’ll honk our horns to honor all those moms now in isolation for almost two months. Here is a short video I made this week to send into the various homes where I used to be able to visit. God bless all of you moms out there. This is your special day!

Our Wagging Tongue

Our tongue is a member

So soft and so slick

Of the busybody gang

And the backstabber’s clique

First it says “Have you heard?

Then it adds “Listen close

To my sweet secret word”

Then it starts to boast

But God sees right through

Every lie we have told

With our nose in the air

When our hearts have grown cold

Because He created

Us for better things

If we’ll just speak the truth

He’ll give us truth we can sing!
