Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.”… Mark 6:31a
They all ate as much as they wanted. Mark 6:42
In the space between these verses is the amazing story of how Jesus fed 5,000 men at a place where the apostles were just hoping to get some rest. Sometimes all of us just need to get away. But Jesus comes up with astonishing ways to give us what we need in a way we least imagine.
So why don’t we begin by asking ourselves the same question that Jesus asked the disciples. “How much bread and fish do we have?” The very first step towards meeting our own needs is to find what we have to give to others. You might feel like you have nothing left for other people; but remember that the disciples wondered too when Jesus asked for them to give Him their 5 loaves and 2 fish. The secret is not how much we have but how much we give away.
If you can’t think of what to say to others then try lending a listening ear. When you feel too weak to help anyone then ask for God to help them by prayer. Most of all if you have been forgotten, find someone else who is lonely and sit with them a while. You’ll be amazed at how many baskets full of blessings you have at the end of the day. God doesn’t ask for us to do miracles; He only asks us for our fish and loaves!
