Just Wait a Minute!

“If you can wait and not be tired by waiting” Rudyard Kipling

Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!         Psalm 27:14

Not long ago I had eye surgery and contrary to my expectations the first three days of recovery were extremely painful. It was a pain deeper than the surface and there was no where to go to get away from it. Everything was normal about the procedure but I just had to wait. I hate to wait; but I have discovered that the only thing worse than waiting on God, is not waiting on God! What are you waiting for that only God can heal tonight? Abide in Him and He will bring it to pass!

Go Sit On Your Bed!

“Sit on your bed till your father gets home!” Was one of the most terror filled ways for me to spend an afternoon when I was ten years old. I sometimes wasn’t quite sure what I had done wrong and was even less certain of what punishment lay in store. Though often I deserved whatever spanking awaited me at my dad’s return this is not what God has in mind for our relationship with Him. He is not busy doing important stuff at the office and hoping we were good while he was away.

Instead our heavenly dad stayed home to spend time with us today. He also has planned out in advance a family adventure vacation. He can’t wait to go out with us and help us discover amazing things on our journey. He challenges us to think in new ways and learn to do new stuff. But our becoming a new man (or woman) is not about trying harder, running faster or jumping higher. In fact the new person we are asked to be is not about us at all.

Only Jesus is the true holy and righteous new man. Only He can be in us who He is calling us to be! So don’t worry about sitting on your bed till God gets home. Instead go outside and wait in the driveway because our father’s greatest delight is to come home for us give us the blessings of heaven!

Sing a New Song

I have always loved listening to my wife sing. Though she has a beautiful voice of her own, her greatest talent is in the ability to sing a perfect harmony that makes both her voice and the other person’s sound amazing. KIMG1356

Singing isn’t just a nice idea or something sweet to do with our children. Singing is something that God has designed for us to do forever. Jesus sang with his disciples and when we sing a new song he listens and joins in with such perfect harmony that the song takes on an eternal beauty.

So when God says sing a new song think of it as an invitation to share the newest melodies of your life. Some of the verses may be sad or even a bit out off key; but He is listening and waiting to hear us so he can join his voice with ours. Together with Him we will then sing the very best new song of all!
