A Million Hugs and Kisses

All the brothers and sisters here send you greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss.  1 Corinthians 16:20

The U.S. Department on aging tells us that 70% of the 1.4 million U.S. residents in long term nursing care do not receive a single visit from a friend or family member over the period of an entire year. One woman told an interviewer that she was sad to think that “No one touches me unless they are paid to.”

But numbers tend to make our brains freeze over maybe it helps to count missing kisses and

A million hugs.

Paul commands us to greet one another with a holy kiss. At Christmastime there were a lot of church and community groups mobilizing to come in and visit local nursing homes. But now in the middle of January with the last of the tinsel put away till next year there stretches ahead another 11 long months. How many hugs  and kisses  can we give away this year?

My wife and I serve as members of a worship team at a multicultural church. Our members are from Brazil, Nepal and the U.S.. Because of the many languages and cultures in our local body we face unique challenges, such as how many songs will we do in English today? What new songs can we use in either language that are simple enough for the people to sing. The songs, the devotions and insights here are a small portion of some of the ways God is leading us as we push towards the goal. I pray that these will be both a blessing and an encouragement for those of you who may pass by Praise 2 Worship.
