A Moment for the Birds

Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? Luke 12 :24 KJV

After spending the last six weeks alone while my wife is taking care of her sister on the other coast I decided to just play hooky yesterday. I did nothing more work related than have breakfast, pack a few things and head to the beach. For me there is nothing more stress relieving than walking along the shore, listening to the waves and watching birds. Maybe Jesus also walked alone watching birds. He taught us to be as gentle as doves and told us we were of more value than sparrows. Today’s verse focuses on a less lovely bird – the raven. To me they are just big homely looking black birds, but God chose to create them with the special purpose of showing us worriers that He will take care of us. Well, I didn’t see any ravens at the beach – but I did get some great photos of a Great White Egret, who didn’t appear to be too worried about anything – not even my presence! I hope you enjoy my bird photos for the week and that if you are also struggling sometimes with stress that you take a quiet walk and talk to a bird or two. Have a blessed night everybody!

When God Seems Silent

And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”  But He answered her not a word …    Matthew 15:22-23a ESV

Did it ever feel as if God wasn’t paying any attention to you? That is undoubtedly exactly the feeling that the woman in today’s verse experienced. She cried. She begged. She fell to Jesus’ feet. But nothing she could do or say seemed to touch the Lord. Her story reminded me of the Bangladeshi people who come to work the gravel of the dry river banks in North India. They are rejected by most of the local people and forced to take the lowest and most menial jobs. Yet at the end of the story we find that not only did Jesus care but that He did answer her cry and in fact He had made this – His longest trip of His lifetime just for her .

But when it feels like Jesus is not listening and other believers tell us that it is no use, we have a decision to make. Will we continue to pray or will we give up? For all of us there comes that single moment when we have to decide what to do God’s silence. This woman who appeared to have no background, no friends and no hope leaves us with a testimony of hope, not only that God is listening but that He cares enough to hear and answer prayer! Think of it as if Jesus made His trip to earth, just for you, and keep on trusting till an answer comes!

Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly. Matthew 15:28

God of the Plans

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

God of the Plans

To understand the plans of God and walk the way He said
Had always been a hope for me
Since I was just a kid

But life's great complications
Like children, bills and wife
And all my dumb decisions
Left me in a mess of strife

I couldn't seem to get a grip
Of God's great plan for me
And live a life like saints of old
Who always seemed to be
Accomplishing a lot for Him
Who died on Calvary

My struggles swept me far from shore
Till I felt lost at sea
And then I heard my Savior say
Just trust and follow Me!
