Safely Home!

Some fellows hit those Home Runs
Some doubles or Sac-Fly's
But not so many can steal home
As to the plate they slide

Stealing home base is no cinch
Nor for the faint of heart
They must tag up before they try
To get their running start

And with us it is the same
If we want to move ahead
Before God will allow advance
We must go back instead

To tag up with who we've been
And where we have gone wrong
Only then by His own grace
Can we run safely home!

Fleeing to the Lord

Deliver me, O Lord, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me. Psalm 143:9 KJV

Flee - it's such a weakling word
A fearful, shameful thought
But I'm running Lord to You
With all the strength I've got

Like David I'm surrounded by
Things I don't understand
So let me come to hide in You
Just as You always planned!

Just a Few More Miles

It’s been fifty years of marriage dear
Now you know my math’s not strong
But that’s two thousand and six hundred weeks
If my calculator is not wrong

And with leap years and those quarter days
The months slip by so fast
It’s hard to count the meals you’ve cooked
And the birthdays that have passed

Paying the electric bills
The joy of Christmas each December
And teaching boys to pray and trust
Oh our loving God remembers

And walks with us down all the roads
Through hardships and our trials
Let’s finish well and trust Him still
For there’s just a few more miles!
