Praying Bigger Prayers!

J.B. Phillips besides translating the New Testament also wrote a short book titled, Your God is too Small”. Though I enjoyed the book I have sadly discovered in looking back over 4 decades of walking with Jesus, that my own smallness of thinking acting and praying has limited what God in my life. The bad news is I can not go back and change even the smallest selfish or sinful attitude of the past. But the great news for us all is that if we woke up this morning then our mighty God and His limitless power and love is still ready to answer prayers. What is the biggest and outrageous thing you can ask for today? If it is only for yourself it is way too tiny! Can we shock our Father with any request? What lies beyond the horizon of our little world is just the beginning of what God longs for and will do!

Follow Me!

Peter asked Jesus, “What about him, Lord?”        John 21:21

As Jesus and Peter walked along the beach in conversation about God’s will, Peter turned around and saw his friend John following close behind. Maybe John just wanted to see if Jesus would talk with him also or maybe like a younger sibling he was simply eavesdropping! When Peter saw John suddenly the question came to him that often comes to us all: “What about him? Why won’t he have to experience the same things I do? “Lovingly Jesus turned Peter’s focus back to where it needed to be: “Follow Me!”

As Americans we are raised on fairness. We grow up with it in the home, we hear and see it in the media and it is almost written into our DNA! But our God does much better than being fair with us: He gives us His grace. What a wonderful rest will enter into the DNA of our soul once we settle the matter of His grace and His will. What others will or won’t have to do will fade away and the eyes of our heart will begin to see Jesus clearly as we hear His plain message; “Follow Me!”

All Grace!

The longer I have walked with Jesus Christ the more I see that everything has been always and only by His grace. I do not understand everything perfectly yet but I am learning that life with Jesus has nothing to do with 3 steps to success, 4 things to know to become a leader or 5 ways to become prosperous. Life with Jesus has everything and only to do with His grace.  It is only by His loving kindness that I will one day walk from the moments and days of this temporary life into His timeless eternity where always and forever we will praise Him for His amazing grace!

He comes looking for us – Before- we are looking for Him

As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.   Matthew 9:9

He comes to restore us even when we are hiding in fear

Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” John 20:19

He still calls us to serve Him even after we have publicly failed

He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.              John 21:17-18
