Safely Home

Having grown up among the hills of New England I was amazed as I drove across North Texas and discovered a stretch of road without a rise or even a curve as far as I could see! The greatest danger was not in encountering the unexpected around a bend but in falling asleep at the wheel.

The same can happen during some parts of our lives. An astonishing sameness of daily routine can dominate our outlook till we are lulled into a spiritual drowsiness. We become so dulled by the changeless landscape of life that we lose sight of our destination. But when the hurricane winds of life blow we must run to the anchor of our hope – Jesus Christ. He will never fall asleep at the wheel. Give him the driver’s seat in your life and He will safely steer you home!

On Tiptoe

The whole creation is on tiptoe to see the wonderful sight of the sons of God coming into their own. Romans 8:19 Phillips version

Do you sometimes find life a bit boring? Not our our grandson Alex who is anxiously curious about everything! On our walk this morning, he picked up every seed, pine cone and stick. When we got to the nearby fire station he  peered through the windows at the fire trucks parked inside and then  decided he’d even check out their mail! Can you imagine that the entire creation of God has that same curious longing to see what God will do through us today? No life is so not boring that tiptoes are necessary to see inside the wonderful things that God has secretly in store!

Cloudy Day

Do you know how the clouds are balanced, Those wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge? Job 37:16

As we are preparing to begin the road towards Florida I thought I’d take some farewell photos of my beloved farm (not mine exactly but the one I have managed for 25 years. Wouldn’t you know it but my big chance for lots of spectacular endless mountain scenery ended up as a cloudy day.

But even with clouds it is still an amazing place. It is so hard to imagine not seeing these hills, muddy roads, quiet streams and fields.

Nothing grows easily in this hard rocky clay soil but grass, trees, corn and people with roots deep enough to keep them from being blown off the mountain ridges!

But whatever road God leads us on He has promised to be with us. What better scenery than the horizon that God has chosen is there? He has promised to watch over, walk along side and care for our needs in whatever place He chooses for us to call home!

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Matthew 6:26
