Just a bit of quiet to share in the press of Christmas preparations. “Are you ready for Christmas?” is the question we either ask or receive daily in a light-hearted way. What they really want to know is, “Have you finished shopping?” While usually I would respond saying, “Not really!” or “I haven’t even started.” But lately I listened to my own words and decided I would change them. Jesus is not so interested if I have finished shopping for things. Jesus is interested if my heart is prepared to remember His simple birth. God knows I am no more ready than the sleeping shepherds who God sent His angels to awaken, but in a strange sort of way they were prepared. They were ready to leave their sleep. They were ready to leave their sheep. They were ready to see what they had never seem before – God With Us- who came not for people who were ready but to ready a people to become His! Are you ready for Christmas? Christmas peace and blessings to you all!!

The Heart of Jesus Christ
Nursing home ministry is not about being nice. It is not about feeling good or having others think of as as more religious than others. Nursing home ministry like any other service for the Lord Jesus Christ is about being obedient to His call to carry His message to those He sends us. Any “nice feelings” or “good impressions” that come of what we do are entirely secondary. We are in fact being called to the front lines of the battle for men and women for whom God sent His Son to die. If He was willing to stay on the cross for those long hours to open a path to heaven, how can we not do all we can to tell others about this good news?
This Christmas we have a unique opportunity to go into nursing homes in our community. Now would be the perfect time to call together people from our local churches to sing and share the story of the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. How better can we express the heart of Jesus than by going to tell it on any mountain that God leads us to this year? Be blessed!
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed Luke 4:18
D-Day in Bethlehem
June 6 1944 was the date for the invasion of Normandy by the Allied forces under the command of General Dwight Eisenhower. In the dark of night a fleet of ships silently carried an invading army to beaches code-named Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno and Sword. Despite the element of surprise and careful planning heavy casualties were suffered as the liberation of Europe from Hitler and the Nazi regime began.

In a field just outside of Bethlehem another army readied itself to invade earth. We often hear of a heavenly choir appearing to the shepherds but the Greek word stratia, which the King James version translates as hosts meant an assembled army. This was not just a bunch of white-robed musicians playing harps in the sky. This was a part of God’s invasion force rejoicing at the successful insertion of their general into the enemy’s territory! Victory was in sight. Peace was to come but not through a treaty. Peace would be the result of the ultimate defeat of the evil regime reigning on the earth and the crowning of the Prince of Peace on His victorious return from the field of combat. Yes Christmas was more than gentle shepherds and sweet angels. It was God’s expeditionary army of light led by General Jesus coming to bring His peace on earth to men on whom His favor rests!
