Oh God I Wonder

Oh God I wonder how you know
And why you think of me
When I am busy with small things
And by none other seen

While flowers bloom in back yards
When sparrows feed at dawn
Before our children wake to play
And the dew is on the lawn

You are with me on this pathway
Walking beside through every mile
Showing wounds that say You died for me
So You could call me child

Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands;
and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
John 20:27 KJV

One Amazing Spectacular Day – Reprise

With Halloween in the rear-view mirror and the first of November on our doorstep, a season of change is here. Next week the clocks will fall back, the leaves have already changed their color and the ground in the mountains where we once lived, will soon slip on a shimmery dress of frost. Though I posted this poem once before, I thought it might be a good reminder that change is part of God’s plan (which I usually hate it at first!). We get to choose whether to hope or worry about the changes that are upon us, but hope is so much better, because our Good – Good Heavenly Father always knows what is best for His children. Hope you also enjoy Good-Good Father which is one of my favorite Chris Tomlin songs.

Some caterpillars pitch their tents
In the tops of cherry trees
Weaving a home for all to share
To feast on its sweet green leaves

Still others decide they will journey alone
Tree to tree in the forest instead
Traveling free along with the breeze
As they swing on their silken threads

And then there are green ones who don’t weave at all
In my garden they just show up to munch
The green leaves of cabbage or my broccoli plants
They relax while enjoying their lunch!

Yet by design one by one they will change
In God’s secret and intricate way
Into Luna Moths or Red Admirals
One amazing spectacular day!

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Memories and Yarn

My memories are like balls of yarn
Which from my basket spill
And I watch as all those threads of life
Go tumbling down the hill!

So lately I’ve been wondering when
Just when those balls will slow
So they can be knit back again
Into neat tighter rows

But then my Lord reminds me
In whose hands our lives are held
And how through every thread of life
He will His story tell

I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made
Marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well.
Psalm 139:14 NKJV
