The Path to the Barn

Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. Psalm 25:4-5 NLT

When I was a teenager I had the chore of milking our cow every morning at 4:45 A.M. At that hour, it was always pitch black out and so I needed to walk across the road to the barn with a flashlight to show me the way. I couldn’t see much but I knew that if I just kept my feet on the path then step by step I eventually would make it across. In that same way God has a very special path planned for our life. He doesn’t expect us to wait to see it all clearly before we start walking. Instead he wants us to trust Him to shine the flashlight on the place where we have to take our next step. That is what it means to put God first in everything. We must remind ourselves that He knows what is ahead on the path that seems dark to us. We just need to follow Him and no matter what happens He will lead us the right way, keep us safe even on the pitch black path and keep us safe all the way to the barn!

I Am Missing Church!

Not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:25 ESV

Oh I know all about meeting online, making phone calls, and watching countless videos but I miss the little things about church. I miss wildly flipping through my Bible’s pages trying to keep up with our young pastor’s messages. I miss seeing the faces of my brothers and sisters and feeling their hugs and handshakes. I miss hearing voices of people crowded into the seats next to ours. I even miss just hanging out after the service and catching up with friends. But more than all these I, miss the hushed moment as the communion plate is passed and together we remember the sacrifice that Jesus made so that we could have eternal life – a life shared together with Him and all the family of God.. Not one of us knows when this Corona virus crisis will be over but when it is I will wager dollars to donuts that there will be tears of joy as once again we enter our places of worship. Maybe we will treasure a little more one of God’s gifts that we so often take for granted -the gift of one another. Maybe this trial by fire will open our eyes and our hearts to see the church the way that Jesus does. He is our Good Shepherd and together we are the flock of God for whom He laid down His life. Maybe this will teach us to appreciate and honor one another more. Maybe when the doors swing open again we will eagerly come and embrace one another because we have been reminded of the value of the church, the Body of Jesus Christ.

Hymn Session 2

Now entering into the end of two weeks unable to sing for the services at several area nursing homes I am making short sing along video sessions of hymns that people have loved over the years. If you’re getting a bit of cabin fever like we are why not join in. When we lift up the name of Jesus it is always amazing how He reaches down and lifts up our hearts! Is it a modern professional recording? Absolutely not! But I pray you will be blessed. God has not forgotten a single one of us and He is inviting us to call on Him today!
