A Prayer for My Pastor

Lord I’m praying for my pastor
Cause he really needs a bump
You know he's not too stylish
And he preaches like a shlump

I confess I like the coffee
And the donuts when they’re free
But I don’t like the sermons
When they name the sin in me

Sometimes I’ve even thought about
The church just up the street
Where the pastor wears an earing
And his messages are sweet

But at my suggestion
My dear wife began to cry
So, help me Lord be patient
With this homely little guy!

Be Still

"Be still and know that I am God"
I heard my Savior say
But instead
Just like a child
I chose to run away

Then ran as fast as I could race
Till I felt my aching side
Then out of breath
With failing legs
I sat and simply cried

Then His voice called once again,
"Find peace in what I've done
Come learn My way
And take My yoke
Then rest in Me alone!"

Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth!”
Psalm 46:10 ESV

Book of My Poetry

In the book of First Corinthians, the Apostle Paul tells us of seeing only a dim reflection of Jesus in this life. But then he gives us the hope that one day we will see Him face to face. Then Paul speaks of three traveling companions who will accompany us until then Their names are, Faith, Hope and Love.
This collection of poems which I have titled, “The Second Mile – On the road that leads us Home” is divided into three sections named after those friends, I call them, Morning Pathways of Faith: High-Noon Highways of Hope and The Evening Road to Love. At the end of each section, you will find a page open for you to add your own thoughts about where you are on your journey with Jesus. I pray that you will be encouraged, strengthened, and blessed as you make your way along this poetic roadmap to the home of God’s great and amazing love!

Here is just a tidbit from the collection which I hope you may enjoy as you sit down with a hot cup of coffee or tea and begin your morning. Have a blessed day all.

He Still Calls

In the mockingbird’s melody
And the rain when it falls
Or alone in night seasons
Behind our four walls

He comes and He speaks
And He knocks at our door
Then calls out our name
Just as He’s done before

For Children who listen
He has treasures in store
To those who awaken
And answer, “My Lord!

And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth. 1 Samuel 3:10 KJV
