Bookends

There are bookends that sit on my table
With my Bible, and journals and books
A tottering row of this thing and that
With my thoughts and my dreams in their nooks

Like my opening show on its one end
With the years crowded there in between
And together they give me reminders
Of my soon coming brief closing scene

Yet my heart holds a peace at its center
For God promised that I have a place
And the one who is writing my chapters
Keeps the best for the last by His grace

So, teach us to number our days,
That we might get a heart of wisdom

God’s Christmas

Without the Father's giving
There's no gift for me today
Without the Christ's descending
The manger holds but hay
Without the Spirit's shadow
Mary's womb would empty be
But by the Lamb of Bethlehem
God's Christmas came to me!

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him would not perish but have ever lasting life. John 3:16

Mary Just Believed

One quiet night in Nazareth
God’s angel came to tell
Sweet Mary as she sat alone
Of God Immanuel

As Mary listened, she believed
God’s great eternal plan
“But how,” she asked “Could He choose me?
When I don’t know a man?”

In kind reply the angel said
“God’s Spirit soon will come
And by His shadow cover you
To make this child His Son

And He will be the Lamb of God
The gift all may receive
Filled by God’s grace and truth with love.”
And Mary just believed!

And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.
Luke 1:45 ESV
