Abiding After the Storm

When the rain was raging
And the storm knocked at my door
Abiding meant still resting
In God’s Word and nothing more

After hours of cleanup
In the sunset’s fading light
Abiding was still walking
On with Christ throughout the night

In the middle of destruction
With debris now piled deep
Abiding is still trusting
God our hearts will daily keep!

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine,
neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
John 15:4 NKJV

Author's note: Though we personally were spared during this storm, many of our friends were caught in the worst of it. What little ways we are able to help, barely make a dent in the work that lies ahead, but as God's family we are trusting Him to get us through this together.

Daddy’s Hands

Daddy’s hands were wrinkled
Though he never seemed to care
Each day they opened for his work
At night folded for his prayer

Those furrows on his palms ran deep
And I often wondered why
The years had left their messages
Like old friends passing by

But now when I bend down to help
My grandson trying to stand
If I look, I find that I
Have got my Daddy’s hands!

Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Deuteronomy 11:19 ESV

Trust in God Who Plants the Seed

In Spring the icy ground awakes
As ice melts down by rain
And flowers once lost beneath snow
Start to unfold again

Then hope after a Winter’s sleep
Comes calling at our door
And with its gentle voice awakes
Forgotten dreams once more

To trust in God who plants the seed
That in cold ground waits alone
For in Springtime it will live again
When He rolls back the stone!

And they asked each other,
“Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”
Mark 16:3 ESV
