Jesus Knows Our Name!

“Rabbi,” his disciples asked him, “why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?” John 9:2

Does it bother you if people forget your name? Are you offended if people point and say, “Hey you over there, come here!”?  It is interesting that though our blind man receives a longer and more detailed story than anyone else in John’s gospel (except of course Jesus), yet we are never told his name. The disciples asked if he were a sinner and his neighbors just referred to him as the blind beggar. His parents came closest when they confessed him as their son but the Pharisees named him; someone born in sin.

Maybe this blind man felt invisible, anonymous and rejected. But no matter whether we know his name the most important part was that Jesus knew. In the following chapter as Jesus begins explaining what it means to follow him I can’t but believe that the blind man was still sitting at his feet. Just as Jesus had individually come to meet him, he now learns that Jesus was calling his name.

And today, just like that blind man we can know that no matter our sins or weaknesses Jesus has come for us. In spite of the denial and rejection of others, Jesus wants to spend time with you. If not even one single person on earth remembers us, Jesus has not forgotten. He is calling our name. If you can hear His voice trust Him because He leads us to green pastures and makes us rest by quiet waters.

To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.  John 10:3 NKJV

Carried To The Table

I was so moved by this video that Joni and Friends ministry shared in their Thanksgiving newsletter that I wanted to share with my readers. This special video was created by the Reflectors ministry of Faith church in Dyer Indiana. It vividly shows us that Jesus truly is not only a good shepherd but that he also carried us on His cross to the banqueting table of the Lord. We must remember how precious our seating is and how special each family member around us and we give thanks!

Jesus Our Shepherd

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6 ESV

We are nearing the six-month mark of a life that is completely different from anything we have known before. No plan, no relationship and no expectation has gone untouched. Churches have services online; large companies battle just to stay afloat, and the doors have been closed to family and visitors of long-term care facilities. But through everything you may have been through this year Jesus remains the Good Shepherd for anyone who comes to Him.

What exactly is a good shepherd? An ordinary shepherd is just the one who owns sheep, but a good shepherd is someone who cares about them. An ordinary shepherd drives his sheep where he wants them to go; but a good shepherd goes ahead of them to make sure the way is safe. Jesus told us that He is the good shepherd and that to make the way safe for us He gave His life. If we follow Him; He promises to walk ahead of us through everything that lies ahead. Why would we put our trust in anyone else? Only Jesus has given His life. Why not make Him our Good Shepherd today?
