Home Coming

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.                 Matthew 11:28 ESV

Fed up with the rules at home, I decided one day to go to live with my grandparents. “I want to live with Gammy and Cap-Cap!” I stated defiantly to Mom.

“Okay, I’ll help you pack.” she said. “How are you going to get there?”

“I’m going to walk up Route 6!” I said confidently. Technically this was possible but I did not know that 300 miles separated me from their home in Connecticut. Mom just smiled and helped me close my suitcase. After my stepdad got home from work they helped me put my things in the car and drove to the edge of town then pointed me in the right direction.

I bravely got out of the car and started walking away but each time a car sped by I flinched. “See you later!” Mom said waving as they turned and walked out of sight. But my world seemed suddenly so big and frightening that I started to cry. At that moment my parents magically appeared, scooped me up in their arms and took me home!

Have you ever decided to run away from Jesus? You may think He didn’t notice when you started down the road; but He was watching and waiting for us to cry out. He is prepared for our home coming and has a place where we will always belong!

Fallow Ground

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord , till he come and rain righteousness upon you. Hosea 10:12 KJVFallow – a state in which a field is unplowed, unplanted and unused. That a field is left fallow in no way implies that it isn’t lovely or that it is useless. Fallowness is a state of rest during which the ground can regain its strength after years of crop bearing. But the same God who chooses our seasons to lie fallow also decides when it is time to plow again. We are most able to hear the plowman’s call when we rest in His timing and plan. He has not chosen us to decide the seed or the season of planting. We are called to abide quietly till the new crop must be put in. Then we can awaken with joy because the roughness of a plow dragging across our field means a harvest of mercy is dawning on God’s horizon!

Wisdom of Geese

I confess that I never held a great deal of respect for geese on the farm. To me they seemed the most unlikely examples of wisdom of any of our animals. What I had forgotten to take into account was their creator. He places a message within every part of his creation…even geese.

First they stick together. One gosling wouldn’t last five minutes alone but from the moment he or she is hatched they  stick close behind the one who will fight to protect them.

Second they love to communicate. They honk when danger is close and they will hiss at an enemy if it comes too close.

Last of all they stay in the place where they were born till they grow strong. Then when the Autumn winds blow they prepare for the journey that lies ahead before Winter.

Yes even geese can reflect the glory of God. Sticking together communicating and preparing for the journey are the wisest choices anyone could make. Who ever called you a silly goose had no idea the complement they were giving!

And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord , have not forsaken those who seek You.
