Daily Bread

Tonight my wife was in a baking mood so she decided we are having homemade bread. The aroma of it in the oven is enough to get my taste buds tuned up for the big pot of chile simmering on the stovetop.

When Jesus taught us to pray for daily bread it was not only as a check on our tendency to worry; but also out of a fatherly concern for us to have a healthy spiritual diet. Friends will be stopping by later just to be able to eat a piece straight out of Nancy’s oven!

We need to take more seriously our prayer for daily bead. If we ask Him our Father has promised to provide fresh daily bread. Then maybe folks will stop by not only for my wife’s famous recipe bread, but for also for some bread straight out of God’s own oven!
Those who pray best, pray for today’s not tomorrow’s needs. Our prayers for tomorrow’s needs may be unnecessary because tomorrow might not exist at all” E M Bounds

Easter Adventure

When Daniel goes to Jerusalem with his family he finds himself in the middle of a crowd shouting the praises of a young rabbi riding in to the city on a Donkey. Five days later he becomes trapped in a mob and separated from his family by soldiers who are marching three men out the gate to be executed. At sunset as Daniel tries to find his way home he sees in the distance that the young rabbi and two others have been crucified on a hilltop. Washing Feet

Why foot washing? Couldn’t Jesus have suggested something easier like hand washing or face washing?

But Jesus not only commanded that we wash one another’s feet: He humbled Himself to wash ours first.

It is a strange thing how washing feet shows Jesus that we love him and the world that He loves them! He washes us to prepare our feet to walk onto heaven’s holy ground. We wash one another to prepare each other to walk into the world and share the love of Christ.

With Lent on the horizon this is a good time to ask, “Am I ready and willing to wash someone’s feet today?”
