Catch Anything? Part One

At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was.He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. John 21:4-5 NLT

Now the joke in my family is that I could save a lot of time in my fishing if I just tossed the worms in the water and then took my grand-kids out for ice cream! But Jesus’ disciples were not like me. They had been fishing the Sea of Galilee since they were children. They knew how deep the water was, where the fish lived and what to use for bait. But despite their professionalism and hard work they couldn’t catch a minnow!

Does that sound a little bit like our best efforts to reach people for Jesus? No matter how hard we try or what method we use we will continue to fail unless we find out how Jesus wants us to fish. 1552053155928_image.jpg

The good news is that Jesus gives free fishing lessons. Our first assignment is to follow Him. The mistake that Peter, James and John made was that they went fishing without Jesus. Fishing without Jesus means empty nets and sore backs.

Before we launch out today determine to listen and watch for what Jesus wants us to do. As we stick close to His side we will be amazed to learn that He knows where the fish are. He knows what side of the boat to cast the net on and He will wait all through the night for us to come home to Him!

 

 

True Revival

True revival is not about emotions or even miracles but about a real place on earth where the Father’s will is done. That being said I would ask for prayer for myself and our ministry team this Wednesday. We will be sharing the hope of the gospel in five different nursing home meetings tomorrow. There is no where more needing of transformation encouragement and restoring revival than in these places. People face discrimination, neglect, physical suffering and depression. Only Jesus can and will untie the knots, draw close and bring real spiritual healing. Pray that we will display clearly the amazing love of Jesus Christ and be His hands and feet in these places.

Knowing Jesus

What do any of us have more precious than knowing Jesus? But will we live today with our treasure buried like a pirate’s treasure chest? Will people need to be like Indiana Jones trying to decipher our words in order to discover who Jesus is? Maybe we’re worried about how they would react if we simply shared the good news of salvation and forgiveness with them. In the long run though it will nor matter what they think about us, but rather what they think of Him. I can still remember the man who first told me about Jesus as I was walking through an inner city neighborhood in Boston one night. He simply said, ” I want to tell you about Jesus…that’s J…e….s….u…s. He loves you!” As he spoke I felt the power of Christ for the first time in my life. I have no idea who he was but when I meet him in heaven I will thank him for taking telling me about the greatest treasure. Because I heard and experienced the message of God’s grace I one day prayed to receive Jesus as my Lord, Savior and closest friend. Who can I tell today about the wonderful riches of knowing Him?
