In the Shadow

Often when I think of the shadow of the cross it brings to mind an image sorrow brooding like a storm on the horizon. But during worship on Sunday morning I saw that shadow as my place of protection. When the darkness of death covered the life of Jesus on the cross, its shadow covered me by His grace. In the moment that the punishment for my sins required the precious blood of the spotless Lamb of God my forgiveness and life were born in the shadow of my Savior’s cross.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalms 91:1 KJV

Gentleness and Trust

I don’t much like storms and even less darkness. I hold on tight to life’s rudder fearing the creeping in of weakness. But God, who loves me more than He loves Himself knows every turn that lies ahead. Oh for just a bit more patience of Christ for there is no fear when I trust in His gentleness.

That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
Philippians 3:10 NKJV

But as I raved and grew more fierce and wild At every word,

Methought I heard one calling, Child!
And I replied My Lord

Taking Hold

God has promises and callings for each of our lives. Being in the courts of the king is not about how important others think we are but in how much we long to be there. We may serve Him in some of the most unexpected way and places when we simply take hold of that for which He has taken hold of us.

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.
Philippians 3:12 NKJV
