Are You Thirsty today?

July 2012 016Not too long go we stayed in a hotel in South Carolina. At home we are quite used to drinking only spring water because the city water has such a heavy taste of Chlorine. That night I  had forgotten to bring in bottled water but I was so thirsty that I decided to settle for water from the sink. How wonderfully surprised I was at the sweet clean water that simply flowed freely from the tap!

In the Bible God promises that if we thirst for Him we will be satisfied. But there are days that I am thirsty only for approval, financial blessings or some “me time”. Those kind of days are far too common. But on rare mornings I wake up to realize that it has been weeks or maybe months since I was really thirsty for Jesus. Those mornings I long to draw close enough to Jesus Christ to drink from the cup of water that He is holding in His hands. It is easy and available both to me and you just like the water in the hotel. We don’t have to hoard it, buy it or wait for it. It is water that is free! It is water that becomes in me a source so great that I am almost forced to share it with others. His water is for anyone but there is just one catch. We must wake up thirsty enough to be willing to come to Him and drink! Are you thirsty for Jesus today?

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled  Matthew 5:6 NKJV

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Psalm 34:8

Ho everyone who thirsts come to the waters.. Isaiah 55:1

Remember Me

And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19 ESV

As I was growing up we moved so many times that I lost count. Every new place I hoped that this would be the one where I belonged. But as the years passed I learned that fitting in meant being a part of the memory of a community to which I could never belong.

But as a 19 year old I found my way home and discovered that in Jesus Christ I belonged. He remembered me even though I had forgotten Him. So now as a 60 something when it seems I don’t fit into the hopes and plans of others it is a great comfort to know He still remembers. Now I must learn to always remember Him!

God is working Zone

“Road construction next 10 miles” is a sign few of us like to see. Construction slows down traffic and forces us to concentrate on changes to our normal pattern in order to navigate our way safely. God also has construction zones in our lives. He is at work all the time and has a wonderful way of throwing us off our schedule and our plans in order to get us on His. Are we grumbling when our street is filled with pot holes and then complaining when they close the road to fix them? It can be much the same on our spiritual roads. Sometimes God closes things down and redirects our route because He has a better destination in store than the one on the way we were headed. So why not follow God’s detour and find out what amazing things lie ahead on the other side of His heavenly road construction?
