It has been hot this week so last night we went for a walk and the breeze from the Gulf felt wonderful. I got some nice sunset photos that remind me of the verse about giving praise to God no matter the time. He is worthy to be exalted not only at sunset but even all through the night!
From the rising of the sun to its going down The Lord ’s name is to be praised.
Psalms 113:3 NKJV
But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

Since I come from the “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands” generation it has taken me decades to learn the value of quiet. Only now am I beginning to see that silence is also worship.
In the busy symphony of life God places some whole rests in between our Allegro movements. We must learn to play not only the grace notes but also the pauses placed in our score. God being both kind and gentle hears our voices even when no words are uttered.
Yes one day we will return to the happier pace of marches or the soaring crescendo of horns and timpani. But even in a moment of silence God is still keeping time. Our hope is not in the loudness of the part assigned us but in the kind and loving conductor who leads us in Christ to hear heaven’s music even in the rest!
Sometimes we say that every cloud has a silver lining and in every trial there is a blessing. But the deeper truth is that our trials lead us desperate dependence on Him. Like the woman grasping for the hem of the robe of Jesus we feel forgotten and abandoned, but God has been with us through everything even when we didn’t know. Not every evil that we have suffered has been by God’s own choice. But in every suffering He has been with us. If we will trust Him all through the night He will lead us on to dawn!
