Five Lessons From Our Feathered Friends

I rarely share from other blogs, but I was so blessed by this post from Securely Anchored that I wanted to pass it on. I do not know anything about Nancy Smith except that she is a fellow New Englander and a bird watcher. I am constantly amazed at how God teaches us some of His biggest lessons from His smallest creatures!

Our birdfeeders are strategically placed so we can view the many different species that come daily to visit. Living in New England brings different birds throughout the year as some migrate north for the warmer months and then fly south again. How do they know what to do and where to go? If we take […]

Five Lessons From Our Feathered Friends

Even Through the Days of Rain

Aches and pains knocked on my door
And stayed an hour yesterday
Like every uninvited guest
They demanded their own way

Just as I wondered what was next
 They tired of their game
And slipped out then down the street
Leaving quiet here again

So, I begged God "Please lock my door
Before they come to stay!"
But He answered only "Robins sing
 Even through the days of rain."

But I am afflicted and in pain;
    let your salvation, O God, set me on high!
I will praise the name of God with a song;
    I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
Psalm 69:29-30 ESV

Going Back to School

While we New Englanders have enjoyed Labor Day weekend as our final summer family fling, here in Florida and much of the South, the kids are gearing up for school in early August. Either way, the pinch of new shoes, finding our seat in homeroom and the weight of Algebra books are an inevitable destiny. This morning that idea of going back to school reminded me of a poem I wrote a while back that encourages us to remember that no matter how old we are, God has some new lessons for us to learn today.

Flying Lessons

The hummingbird was sleeping in
When mother shook his wing
Wake up John it’s time for class
I heard the school bell ring!

He opened first one tiny eye
Then peeked out of the nest
He knew the day for flying lessons
What was his mom planned next

So out the door with trembling heart
John’s wings began to beat
Then up into the wind He flew
To lessons down the street!
