God Gave Him a Song

God Gave Him a Song

A rich and a poor man met Jesus one day
One ran to the Lord - one sat by the way
One asked for heaven while the other called out
“Lord I need mercy!” as he started to shout

But the rich man was shocked when he heard Jesus say
Both your heart and your wealth must be given away
So, he turned and went home in shock and dismay
Wondering why God asked all on that day

But the poor man jumped up and he started to come
Left his robe in the dust in his hurry to run
First, He knelt then he wept at the feet of the Lord
And He asked for His eyes to be fully restored

And Jesus delighted to give him his sight
Then He told him go home and praise God there tonight
But instead from that day he followed Jesus along
For He got more than sight - His God gave him a song!

Higher Ground – Video

Luke 23:52-53 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

When Jesus was born, Mary wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid him in the manger because there was no room for him in the inn. At His death Joseph of Arimathaea took him down from the cross and wrapped him in clean linen and put him in Joseph’s own tomb, because Jesus did not have His own. From birth to his last breathe on earth it was clear that there was nowhere on this planet that Jesus belonged, because His true home was in Heaven and in our hearts. When we put our faith in Him for salvation, what was true for Jesus becomes true for us. We lose our acceptance on earth but we gain a citizenship in heaven where Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us. We are called to higher ground! I pray you will be blessed by the video today and that you will be encouraged as you remember that we are called by faith to stand on heaven’s tableland!

Alone With Jesus

After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them.            Mark 9:2 NIV

One of my favorite hymns begins with the words, “I come to the garden alone.” Those ring in my memory as I take my morning walks or as I sit in my chair with the Bible and a cup of coffee. Often when we read this verse, we think of going up a high mountain, as if to get a better view on life, or about the sight of the clothing of Jesus beginning to shine. But what really gives either one of these facts a deeper meaning is that Jesus first asked for Peter, James and John to be alone with Him.

That makes me wonder when the last time was that my heart was quiet enough to hear the voice of Jesus calling me in the garden or any where else. God does not always lead us up high mountains. There are just as many times when His path leads through the valley of the shadow of death and the garden of Gethsemane to pray. We must be careful to listen.

What matters is not just being alone – but being alone with Jesus. Even if you began today running so fast you failed to hear His voice, He still gives us an invitation to come alone with Him. Whether sitting in a garden, climbing a mountain or carrying a cross, if we will walk with Him and talk with Him, He will share a joy none that other has known. Listen! He wants to be alone with you!
