2018 Devotional

Every time the sun comes up and each day that God gives us is another in a chain of miracles. What we choose to do with the journey given us depends a great deal on who we choose to follow each and every day. This full year of short devotional meditations, scriptures and photographs can be one part of what God uses to help you along the road that lies ahead!

I had set a goal at the beginning of 2017 to write a full 365 day devotional. I thought it would be a bit of work but but had no idea just how long writing and editing over 100,000 words could be! The challenge of the countless hours, frustrations have been both a time of learning and growth. I pray that for you “365 Days with Jesus” will be a blessing in your coming year. Now available on Amazon in e-book or soft cover. Also available in the other e-formats on Smashwords.com.

Our Christmas Program

This is a wonderful time to bring Christmas to people on your community who cannot come to your church. Why not set aside one night to put the shopping and baking on hold and share the story of the child of Bethlehem’s manger?

O I hate the word program! Christmas is not a program and is more than just a religious holiday. Christmas is a wonderful opportunity that God has given us these 2000 years to tell again the story of His great love in sending His Son. We had that opportunity again at Allied Skilled services on Wednesday night this week. This year we were challenged by schedules, sickness and just the normal teen stuff but God brought it all together and used our youth to be a Christmas blessing once more. The large room at the nursing home was filled most of the way back and after we sang we spent another 10-15 minutes hugging, shaking hands and saying Merry Christmas to each one.

The Name of Jesus -Part 1

And she will have a son and you are to name Him Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins Matthew 1:32

“Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her,” for you have found favor with God.”  You will conceive and give birth to a son and you will name him Jesus.” Luke 1:30-31

When God gave the name Jesus it is interesting to see that he spoke both to Joseph and to Mary. To Mary Gabriel explained all that Jesus would do as the Messiah, but to Joseph God defined the name. The name Jesus was given because God had given His Son, not only to teach us the ways of Heaven, heal our sickness, or give us a comfortable life; Jesus came to save His people from their sins.
One of the most beautiful sounds in the entire world to each of us is the sound of our own name. We love to hear our name mentioned especially if it is linked with assurance, love or praise. The sound I want most to hear as I cross into eternity is my own name being called by God himself with the phrase “Well done good and faithful servant” Our name is what calls our attention at any moment.
Imagine Jesus entering the world cradled in Mary’s arms. One of the first words Mary and Joseph would say was, “Jesus!”  God had kept His promise to them just as He said. From that day forward every time Jesus heard His own name it would be a reminder of why He had come. When He was growing up in the home with His brothers and Mary called out, “Jesus” he would remember that he was different. God had sent Him not just to be born in the humble stable, but also one day to give His life as a sacrifice for us!
