God’s GPS

 For we walk by faith, not by sight 2 Corinthians 5:7

When God calls us to follow, Christ many of us eagerly jump up and try running to catch up with Jesus. But sometimes it seems that the harder we try the farther behind we get. One reason may be because we are trying to live for Jesus but we still keep the same familiar goals of our past life. Until we see the new goals that Jesus has for us we will just keep going the wrong way.

So God gives us a new GPS system for our spirits. God’s system is the WBF-walking by faith system.  Our old GPS won’t work anymore because our new path is invisible to our natural eyes. Jesus says odd things like, “Come to me out on the waters” when we are in a nice safe boat. Jesus tells us to feed five thousand when we only have five loaves and two fish.

As we walk the faith journey God’s satellite system (the Bible) points out exactly where we are. God’s GPS acquires our location and begins to call out when to turn, and when to keep going straight. If we keep walking in faith, the new system works perfectly. We see the old goals for the empty promises they are. But getting used to God’s way will take time. We make some mistakes along the way, turn up a wrong path or two or even fall to old temptations. But God’s GPS also carries with it a wonderful roadside assistance program called mercy. If we get off track, head off into a field or get stuck in the mud there is still hope. We just need to stop, ask for God’s mercy, and listen. God’s GPS will re-acquire our position then lead us by faith one step at a time to His destination!

The Writer’s Psalm – The Lord is My Editor!

1516287561606_image.jpgThe Lord is my editor He makes me lie down and rest upon His word

He leads me to the quiet place of prayer so I will think before I write

He leads me to live His word not just listen so others will see His name written in my life

He stays up with me on lonely sleepless nights giving the comfort of His presence when I have nothing I can think of to say.

He prepares a feast of the joy of His presence when unfair words work to discourage me

He pours His grace over my life in such amounts that I can’t wait to share it with others

He sends blessings to follow me every day

And when He sends His approval of my manuscript

He includes a note saying, “Why not stop at my house when you are done

So we can spend all of eternity together!”

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy[e] shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  Psalm 23 ESV

Walking With the Invisible God

So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight 2 Corinthians 5:6-7

We walk with an invisible God on an invisible road to an invisible destination! What a totally insane thing it is to live by faith – and yet – God delights in exactly that. The apostle Peter puts this crazy walk of faith  in different words,

Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory 1 Peter 1:8

Has your walk of faith today begun more like a trudge of faith? We all have days like that – and yet – God has chosen those times for us to have opportunity to know Him more. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to find a mysterious letter written from the future as happened in the film “The Lake House”? If you haven’t seen the film it has an odd twist of two people from different times who have never met yet through the letter box they come to know each other and fall in love. That is in some ways like our own mysterious love letter “The Bible”!

We would love to know more details –and yet- by God’s design we are given His word. It is our staircase to heaven, our river that runs from the throne room of God. The word of God is a light that shines in our dark place and it is our shelter from the storm. God’s word is a treasure hidden in a field and it is our pearl of greatest price. The more we don’t know or understand about how to live in the rat race and turmoil of our 2017 world, the more precious the riches of God’s eternal world become. I don’t understand this plan God has chosen and yes some days I am not sure how much I like not knowing and seeing in a more palpable way the things of heaven. -And yet- by faith I am walking with my invisible God on His invisible road to His invisible destination!
