God’s Great Light

To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.” Luke 1:79 NKJV

The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.” Matt 4:18

Neither Bethlehem nor Nazareth had anything special about them. No one expected any great or important thing to happen in their streets. But to those small villages God sent Jesus to shine. Like us, the people of Jesus day were for the most part not even looking for light. They simply sat in darkness. But the Good news about God’s great light is that He calls unsuspecting shepherds, weary wise men and simple carpenters to come to the place of His birth. No one is too far away, no one too ordinary, no place too low for Jesus. He delights in being born in every dark corner we give Him to shine!

A Real Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is simply our recognition that He has been a faithful God in every season of our lives. From our rainy Spring days to our snow drifting winter nights He remains our Savior and the lover of our soul.

Happy Thanksgiving and God bless!

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
I Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV

Out on the Waters

But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” Matthew 14:30 NKJV

Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that God’s call to live by faith  is His call for us to come out on the waters. Walking daily in such a life is more than challenging, it is overwhelming. Like Peter, we are sometimes overwhelmed by wind and waves and most of us aren’t ready to walk on water even on a calm night!

But the call of Jesus as it echoes out over our dark waters carries with it a guarantee. Hearing His voice means that He is  out there waiting for us as even if we start to sink on our way to Him. Our assurance is that our way is not just about difficulty, it is about the miracle of God’s Son. With His call comes His promise, to reach down and pull us out of the waters so we can walk with Him.

And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”   Matthew 14:31 NKJV
