Am I Early or Late?

Wait for the Lord. Be strong and let your heart take courage. Yes wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:14

I don’t know about you but waiting is far from my favorite things to do. Yet surprisingly this verse is one of my favorites because it is written as if God could read my mind. (Oh wait…Yes He can!). You see when I go to the grocery store I need a list. First I have to write the list. Then- on the good days when I remember to bring it- I read the list and check off items while I am shopping.

This verse it written like that. Wait for the Lord it begins – then after we employ the courage God gives in the battle God reminds us on the way home -you still need to wait. Our job is not over. But the most important thing for us to know about the waiting is that we do not have to wait for the Lord because He is late. He asks us to wait because we are early!

Wait Courageously

Have you ever raced over to the motor vehicles department on your lunch hour? Like me you grip the wheel hoping that the line will be short because you have a limited amount of time. Too often we treat waiting on the Lord like the frustratingly slow line ahead of us as we are forced to sit while those in front of us are served. We stare at the floor studying the pattern on the tiles. We wonder if our turn will ever come.

But waiting on God is not like that at all. With God our waiting time is the most productive part of all. In the silent moment He comes to sit along side of us. Like the Samaritan woman at the well we find Jesus there waiting for us. On His lips is the word of life if we will listen for it. In His hands is a cup filled to the brim with living water.

Wait with strong courage because it is especially in the wait that He will speak and strengthen our hearts!
