And That Was That!

They sealed Him in the grave

And that

Was that

And soldiers sent to guard

Stood back

To back

All through the second day

All Hope

Seemed black

Till on that Sunday morn

They heard

A crack

The tomb was opened wide

To show

The fact

That Jesus Christ was free

From death’s

Dark Pact

And Mary heard His voice

It echoed

Back

To tell the mighty news

And that

Was that!

Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her. John 20:18

Easter Morning

Three Short Days

Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb John 20:1 ESV

Just a few years ago we had twenty four inches of snow fall in our city. Cars were buried, streets were closed and everyone’s schedule came to a screeching halt! But three weeks later, with the temperatures reaching 80 degrees, the snow vanished. What a difference three short weeks made!

One Sunday morning 2000 years ago just think what a difference three short days made. On Friday the disciples fled in fear. When Joseph and Nicodemus put Jesus into the tomb it seemed that all hope lay cold and dead. But on that dark morning when Mary came she discovered in astonishment that the stone had been rolled back and the grave stood empty!  Then Jesus Himself drew near. But Mary mistook Him for a simple gardener, until He called her name and then she was filled with joy. Not much has changed in 2000 years. We think of Him as many things but we only know Him when He comes and calls our name! What a difference three short days have made!

Meeting Jesus

His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire.         Revelation 1:14 KJV

On the first Easter Sunday, Mary Magdalene met Jesus outside of the tomb. Jesus was right there, but until He revealed himself to her she thought He was just the gardener. What is Jesus really like? What would it be like to meet with Jesus? How can we relate to a God with flaming eyes that see into the deepest places of our soul? When John first saw Jesus he tells us that he fell down in a dead faint! It was too overwhelming seeing Jesus even for a moment! But Jesus came and put out his hand to touch John and said:

… Fear not; I am the first and the last: Revelation 1:17 KJV

Jesus knows every detail of our lives, and He wants us to know Him. Easter Sunday means finding Jesus is not only alive, but alive and wanting us to know Him. Are you waiting outside a tomb of dying hopes and wondering where Jesus is today? The message of Easter is that He will come just when we least expect. He knows all about us and He is waiting to come and change our lives forever! What a wonderful Risen Lord! What a Savior we have waiting for us again this Easter!
