Getting Ready for Easter

In preparation for Easter some of us choose to separate the 40 plus days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday as a time to refocus our spiritual lives. While there is neither a command in scripture nor a New Testament example, it can still be a valuable time of both repentance and renewal. We certainly can enter into this season in the same way that Paul instructs us to prepare our hearts to receive the Lord’s supper.

Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup.  For all who eat and drink without discerning the body,[i] eat and drink judgment against themselves.       1 Corinthians 11:28-29

Some of us love devotional guides as a supplement to our daily Bible reading. This year I am offering a large print edition for those who like me appreciate a larger font. I hope this may be a blessing to you as with God’s help each of us prepares our hearts for Him.

Easter Reflections – This 46 day Lenten devotional is now in large print. In addition the readings have been re-edited both in content and to conform to the dates for 2019. Easter Reflections is available in both print and E-book format on Amazon.

Lenten Translation Project / Devocionais Para A Quaresma

For those who have followed my blog for sometime you know that I do translation from Portuguese to English at our church. I am not able to professionally translate but having become comfortable with live translation in church I decided to try my hand at translating my Lenten Devotional into Portuguese this year. I am truly thankful for my Pastor, Dr Joliam Sampaio for correcting and rewriting large portions of my first attempt.

The result has been a new adventure for me. If you know of anyone who would enjoy a simple daily reading in the mother language it is available in both E-book and softcover. The soft cover version brings with it the advantage of receiving the E-book version free and free lending is enabled for this.

Search Me

February 17-  4th Day of Lent

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalms 139:23-24 NLT

When the surgeon came to meet me as I lay on the operating table I was calm. Though we had only spoken briefly while I had been examined in his office the week before I trusted him. How much more should we be trusting God during times of change in our lives? May this not just be a season of introspection but rather one of asking God for His inspection of our lives. When we trust God as our surgeon we yield to Him control of our life. We trust that even what we don’t yet understand will be best left in His hands.

How can we know that He has our best at heart? We can be confident because we see that His own journey towards Easter morning was marked by a trust that was determined to stay the course, no matter the cost. We can choose again by faith to set out on whatever new path He chooses because His promise is that it leads to everlasting life!
