God in Hiding

And I will wait upon the Lord , that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
Isaiah 8:17 KJV

As I drove up the road this week I was greeted by a mother deer with two fawns. They lingered just long enough for me to snap a few shots then bounded off to a hidden place in the woods.

But God does not hide His face in that way. In fact it is our own sin and selfishness that hides his face from our eyes. No in fact our greatest hope is in a God who longs to be found!

Thirsting for God

As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Psalms 42:1‭-‬2 NKJV

My friend hunts for deer every year on the farm I manage. Before the season opens it is not unusual for him to spend hours scouting for markings and paths. One sure magnet which draws deer is a clean accessible source of water. Deer can and do sometimes survive many days with only a little food but water they need every day.

In the same way God is hunting for our soul. But he is not lying in wait to kill us or to bring us back to put on his trophy wall. God is seeking for us to rescue us and to lead us to springs of living water where we can drink and be satisfied in His presence!

Hiding Place

You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word   Psalm 119:114

Today I came across a group of deer crossing the dirt road. At my first approach they have the amazing instinct to stay till, stay together and wait.

The deer seem to know how to respond to danger better than we do. They know they are where they belong, so when trouble comes they quickly find places to hide. hiding-deer-cropWhen we walk near to the Lord He becomes that place for us to be hidden in Him. His presence surrounds us and provides a shield so the enemy cannot know where to find us. That is not to say we won’t sometimes pass through difficulty, but that when suffering passes close our hearts can be safely sheltered in Him

Psalm 27:5 For he will hide me in his shelter
in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock
