Joseph’s Joy

And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:18-20 ESV

Have you noticed that are many times when God’s plan doesn’t seem at all to line up with our own? We come face to face with circumstances that seem completely unacceptable and yet: we are forced to desperately depend on God. That is exactly how we meet Joseph in his part of the Christmas story. Joseph was a good and kind man who wanted to shield Mary from what he was certain was a betrayal of their trust. But Joseph was also a just man and he knew (At least he thought he knew) that all his plans and hopes for a future life together with his bride to be were finished.

That is where God stepped in with Joseph and where he will step in with us. Whether he sends a message by an angel or if he offers the gentle counsel of His word God is always ready and willing to open the door between heaven and earth and sit down with us in our hard places. If you wait on Him you will feel a tap on your shoulder and hear a voice that says, “Do not be afraid…God still has everything in His control!”

God’s Great Light

To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.” Luke 1:79 NKJV

The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.” Matt 4:18

Neither Bethlehem nor Nazareth had anything special about them. No one expected any great or important thing to happen in their streets. But to those small villages God sent Jesus to shine. Like us, the people of Jesus day were for the most part not even looking for light. They simply sat in darkness. But the Good news about God’s great light is that He calls unsuspecting shepherds, weary wise men and simple carpenters to come to the place of His birth. No one is too far away, no one too ordinary, no place too low for Jesus. He delights in being born in every dark corner we give Him to shine!

Mary I Have News

Does it feel as if God calling for change in your life tonight? Mary faced one of the biggest decisions of all time when Gabriel brought her a message from God. Her choice set the stage for our Savior’s birth. Here is a little early Christmas greeting and song for my friends – especially my family at Allied Skilled Nursing. Missing you all here in Florida but God has brought some changes to us all this year and has Good News for us each this Christmas. Blessings!
