God’s Preaching Begins

Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. Psalm 19:2 ESV

In the storms my God shouts with a loud thunderclap

On my windows He whispers with a raindrop’s tap

In the morning He calls with a sweet robin’s song

Then He opens my eyes with the light of His dawn

Through each day that He gives

God’s preaching begins

With grace and with mercy to cover my sins

I know in the evening He will call me to rest

But there’s much work to be done before my sunset

Prayer: Father I know you are always speaking. Help me to hear your voice my own. Help me in every situation to listen and follow anything you call me to do. In the precious name of our Savior Jesus Christ we ask. Amen.

Treasures

I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Psalms 27:13

I dreamed I stood at heaven’s door

And heard its hinges creak

Around its frame a light shone out

As it opened for the King

“What have you brought?” He began to ask

“From your time on earth now through”

I wasn’t sure what I could say

I knew it had to be the truth

So I talked about my mission’s trips

And how each day I prayed

And how I often read His word

And all the tithes I gave

When I finally stopped to take a breath

He smiled and gently said

“Those were not really from your heart

They were just rituals instead”

“But the forgiveness you gave your parents

When their divorce left you alone

And the love you shared with strangers

When you opened up your home

And sorrowful repentant tears

And confessions in the night

Those are the things I treasure most

And are precious in my sight!”

Friends

Some friends are like the city streets

They find us in the throng

Rushing to our emergencies

Not afraid when things go wrong

Others are suburban lanes

Who come to sit awhile

Patiently listening to our fears

Encouraging us with their smile

But a few God makes like country roads

Quiet – as a sunrise warms

Peeking up above our mountains

Silently shining through our storms
