Time To Come Home

We went with her along the path 
Through turns and twists and more 
Till angels took her by the hand 
As we walked out on the shore 

They led her to a waiting ship 
Then she smiled and turned to say 
“Don’t weep for me I hear His call 
 - Time to come home today!”

In memory of my wife’s sister Diane who we laid to rest yesterday after a year long battle with Interstitial lung disease. Over the last year Nancy spent 5 months caring for her. We flew out to California on Monday and it has been a long week for us both. Thanks for the prayers of those who follow this blog. This little verse puts in words a tiny piece of the comfort that God has given us right now. I pray it may touch someone else dealing with a season of grief.

Just Like Us

She was just like us
As she walked along that day
Just like us when she heard the angel say
Out of all the world
The Lord has favored you
With a Son to bear away our sins
When His time on earth is through

And just like us
She asked about His plan
How can this be
Since I don’t know a man?
But I believe
And wait in quiet faith
To see all that our God will do
If I say yes today!

But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

Time to Be Thankful

And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. Luke 17:15-16 KJV

We have time to eat turkey
And time to have  our pie
Time to watch some football
And for buying stuff on line

But for everything God gave us
Will we take time to say “Thanks”
Or just argue over politics
And a film that stars Tom Hanks?

But if Jesus is the center
Of all we do and say
Then truly we can celebrate
This Good Thanksgiving Day!
