Learning to Rest

Jesus teach me the lessons of resting in You
When I'm burdened with fears and care
Help me to trust grace will carry us through
While I'm quietly waiting in prayer

Help me to have a heart gentle and kind
Not just endlessly doing my best
Always striving yet somehow unable to find
Your gift of sweet stillness and rest

Like a shepherd You lead us on just as You said
Around the twists and turns of life's way
Up on the ridges down the valleys ahead
To Your arms at the end of the day!

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am
gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls
Matthew 11:29 NKJV

I’ve had to step back for a while from regular posting. I have needed time to rest, and this labored bit of verse reflects my heart. I hope it might point you to our Savior. He is teaching each of us in different ways, a daily lesson on rest, (though I often struggle with my homework!)

Sowing Seed

He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 2 Corinthians 9:10 ESV

When our cupboards all were empty
And my heart’s shelves were looking bare
I heard a voice speaking behind me
“Take your seed and plant it there

There in the desert place is flowing
A Living Stream so fresh and free
And in those parched forgotten places
God may choose to grow a tree

For though the ground is dry and hardened
The soil is rich and deep and fair
And if you plant the seed you’re given
You will reap the harvest there!

The Doorway

I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.
John 10:9 ESV

The first door I remember
My mom opened up for me
And there I ate the things she cooked
And learned my A-B-C’s

Me and mom 1952
The next lead to a classroom
With a teacher waiting there
It was exciting meeting other kids
Though they whispered and they stared

Past the third door was my family
And we journeyed through the years
As all of us grew older
We shared struggles, joys and tears
So now there is just one more door
But it I will not fear
Because under it shines a light
And songs of angels sounding near

And God knows that we are wondering
When we must His schedule keep
But we can trust our Shepherd’s time
 For every blood bought sheep!
