Sweet Spirit at Life Care

In 1962, when four guys named, John, Paul, Ringo and George were releasing their first hit song, Doris Mae was helping with choir practice. One particulat night, Doris felt the presence of God in such a powerful way that she hesitated to dismiss everyone. As they lingered a bit, she told someone. “There is such a sweet spirit in this place.” Doris was so enraptured by that experience, that she went home and wrote the words, “There’s a sweet sweet Spirit in this place. And I know that it’s the Spirit of the Lord.”

Today, almost no one remembers Doris Mae Acker, but millions still sing that song which God gave her. And ironically that big hit song, “Love Me Do.” by The Beatles, is rarely played. That story makes me recall some other lyrics written a bit earlier, “I’d rather have Jesus than world wide fame. I’d rather be true to His Holy name.

It was my privilege to sing Dotis’ sweet song with my friends at Life Care today. I ho0e you can hear their voices as we sang together for Jesus and that you will join in. Have a blessed dsy everyone!

Pass the Promise

For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:39 NKJV

With all the catastrophic sad events happening around the world, it is too easy to forget that all the promises of God are true and that in Christ we have a wonderful hope to pass on to our children. The mockingbird still sings in our tree in our backyard no matter the weather. I have never gone out into the sunroom with my coffee to find him biting his fingernails or weeping. I have found in my own times of deepest grief and difficulties that when there are no more words to say, He still helps me to sing. I pray that God will help you find His song in your hearts this week, no matter what you are facing.

I love the lyrics from the hymn “Redeemed” that say, “I sing for I cannot be silent. His love is the theme of my song!” When the love of Jesus is moving in our hearts, a song can never be far away. I came across this video from my internet friends The Mullett Family. The sweet simple voices of their youngest daughters, stir a joy in my heart each time I listen as they remind us that we should be passing on the promise of Jesus Christ to our family, our neighbors and friends. God bless you all and may you have a time to rest in the presence of the Lord and be refreshed in your spirits this weekend.

Songs in the Night

But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night. Job 35:10

When we are in a battle with the enemy like Job was, usually we have no idea what is going on. The invisible forces of the air, like a relentless defensive line in football are always looking to tackle us for a loss. But, when we can’t think straight and sleep is difficult, my dad used to advise me, “Don’t just lie there Pete! Get up and change the channel!” Just as Job did, we need to discover that the worship of Heaven is not limited to the four walls of the church, and we don’t have to hold on for dear life till next week’s service. We can get up in the middle of the darkest night and tune in to the Jesus Channel. Like the verse in Zephaniah tells us:

The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. Zephaniah 3:17 

God never leaves us alone. He is not only the God who sees us, but also the God who will sing with us on the darkest of nights. I hope you will enjoy our song session from Life Care Center of one of my favorite hymns - God Leads His Dear Children Along-
