Sing a New Song

I have always loved listening to my wife sing. Though she has a beautiful voice of her own, her greatest talent is in the ability to sing a perfect harmony that makes both her voice and the other person’s sound amazing. KIMG1356

Singing isn’t just a nice idea or something sweet to do with our children. Singing is something that God has designed for us to do forever. Jesus sang with his disciples and when we sing a new song he listens and joins in with such perfect harmony that the song takes on an eternal beauty.

So when God says sing a new song think of it as an invitation to share the newest melodies of your life. Some of the verses may be sad or even a bit out off key; but He is listening and waiting to hear us so he can join his voice with ours. Together with Him we will then sing the very best new song of all!

The Price of the Gospel

I am thankful that God has opened a new door this week in a memory care wing of a faculty we have been visiting for a while. For those of you who think this is a pointless exercise I would like to encourage you to get involved if you can. Alzheimer’s and dementia effect a small but significant portion of our nursing home community residents. But while memories become spotty the value of the person remains unchanged to our Heavenly Father. We have discovered that love and music in combination can communicate quite effectively the love of Christ!

Wonderful Merciful Savior

And yet again another shooting in our nation. I cannot bear to read the news and hear more angry arguments on rights, laws or political solutions. My heart is aching for our people. Only God who holds both the hearts of kings and the lowly in His Almighty hands can help. I have always loved this song by Selah. Of all the music they have given us this is by far their best and most enduring. May this song be  a comfort to you. May our hearts cry to our wonderful, merciful Savior. Without Him we have hopelessly lost our way.
