Barefoot on Holy Ground

Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” Exodus 3:5 ESV

I know that I have written twice on foot washing lately but the Lord gave me one more small truth to share.

Did you know that when God spoke to Moses, the first thing He asked him to do was to take off his sandals.? Holy ground is strange for us to think of but it is a place we should not walk in our own power. We could no more walk with muddy shoes into an operating room during surgery than to tromp into heaven with our shoes on.

But for us to walk barefoot before the Lord we must have our feet washed. And the soil from where we have walked can only be washed away by Jesus. Only He can prepare us to walk from this earth into His holy heaven. Simon Peter was horrified at the thought that Jesus wanted to wash his feet.

Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” John 13:8 ESV

Did you ever stop to think how amazingly humble our Savior is that He could choose to do such a thing? Has He washed your feet today? Would you humbly bow for a minute to pray and ask Him? Only He can make us ready to walk barefoot on His streets of gold!

White as Snow

Why is snow so white? Maybe because it has fallen from the sky and has never been mixed with the colors of earth.

It is not like the memory of our sin which tinges everything it touches. That reminder clings to our attitudes and mixes with our words. No matter how we try we cannot remove its indelible deep red stain.

But God offers a way to exchange that sin for forgiveness. He sent us the reddest blood of Jesus to wash us clean. It washes with a purity that comes only from heaven. His is the gift that alone can make our hearts as white as snow.

“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord , “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. Isaiah 1:18 NKJV

A Great Personal Cost

…You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. .. 1 Corinthians 6:19‭-‬20 ESV

One of our grandsons used to love hiding in a closet and quietly listening to us call his name. The longer we took to locate him the better he liked it! He was lost because in a moment of distraction we forgot about him.

“I was lost bur now I’m found” are the words of John Newtown’s hymn. But we were not lost because of Gods inattention. Instead we intentionally chose hiding over fellowship with Him. But God has chosen at great personal cost to find us. Our redemption meant that by His great love He chose the loss of His Son as the price of our return. Now that is a value and a cost far beyond anything else in earth or Heaven!
