Mercy is easier to understand than it is to practice. Mercy is easier to receive than it is to give. But God challenges us to become a whole person who is capable of both experiencing His mercy and then carrying it to the world around us.

Our local neighborhood nativity scene had the Christ child stolen from the manger right after Christmas.
So I began to speculate as to who in the world would do such a thing and what would they do with baby Jesus.
If it was a thief who would buy Him?
If it was a believer how could they steal Him?
If it was an occult type how did they think they could harm him?
Then I relaxed and realized that in over 2000 years nothing has changed. King Herod and his like still do all they can to eliminate Jesus. But God knows in advance their plans and has people ready to keep him hidden in their hearts and safe from all attacks. God bless them and bring them to the real Jesus and may they know the joy of bringing Jesus home!

During the last week of my Dad’s life I learned more from him than all the years before. That is not to say Dad’s teaching improved so much as that my listening increased. God’s love reflected in his concern for me getting meals while he only received his through a tube. He worried I was missing sleep while he spent the night in a busy ICU unit. But most of all Dad loved having me and his nurse reading the Bible to him. That week he often quoted his favorite verse
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
Today when the cold winds of reality slap me in the face and little irritations that feel like hurricanes I remember his verse. Though I wish I could pick up the phone to ask Dad what he thinks I come back to this promise. Every day I am finding more and more that success is not determined by the many things I cannot do but by the everything He can!
