For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and chastises every son whom He receives. Hebrews 12:6
I enjoy writing poetry, prose or even an occasional song because I love putting into words the emotions and ideas that come bubbling up in my heart. But just as much as I enjoy putting words together, I hate and despise having to edit them. While editing I feel as if the joy of writing gets lost in the weeds of parsing sentence structure, checking for misspelled words or switching adjectives. There are even days, when I just feel like deleting everything and starting over! But I have learned that unless I stick with the annoyances of editing. I will face the embarrassment of discovering my mistakes in print, after my article is published!

A few verses before today’s passage, God is named as the author of our salvation, and here we are reminded that He is also the editor of our daily lives. I am so glad that God does not hate to edit. He doesn’t just wad us up and toss us in the waste basket when we sin, He lovingly edits and corrects all His children. Some days I feel as if everything needs to be deleted and my plans redrawn. But the Bible reminds me that changes and corrections are a normal part of the life of all God’s children. None of us gets to go to heaven unedited. The author of our salvation knows best how every line of our story should be written and He has an amazing ending in mind. So, let’s put our manuscript on our editor’s desk and ask Him to rewrite it His way, all the way to the end!

Good words!
Sometimes no matter how much I edit, I will find a mistake after publication. God will present us perfect and complete.
Yes and I edited this article 5 or 6 times. I still see a couple of sentences that could be better phrased but I had to walj away. Thanks for your editorial comments!
A delightful analogy, Pastor Pete! I actually don’t mind editing–it reminds me of working a puzzle, getting the pieces to fit just right. Perhaps God doesn’t mind editing us either, taking pleasure in the process as the final product comes together–a bit finer, a bit right-er!
Maybe it’s just the memory of thinking I am done and all’s right with the world, then discovering my oversights in print. It keeps me humble and appreciative of editorial help.
I love this metaphor Pastor Pete. “None of us gets to go to heaven unedited.”
Oh yes indeed! There are some heavenly red x’s marked on more than a few paragraphs of my past and several notes left in the margins of my selfish motives. But thank God that He also has erased my original grade, included a new chapter and written ,”accepted for publucation.” on the last page!
Just wondering what that machine with all the buttons on it is??
Just teasin’, I’m an old geezer and recognize an adding machine when I see one; or is that an old-fashioned calculator? 😂
Can you remember how much fun it was to erase a letter, or even worse a word? We used a forgotten book called a dictionary. Remember them?
I hired a blond for my construction company but had to let her go after the first week. She put so much white-out on the computer screens that no one could read them! 😂😂
I kind of like the editing part. It’s getting the words on the page to begin with that pose the greatest challenge for me. I do like the idea of God “editing” us.
I do enjoy helping other writers by editing their work. Maybe it is like finding the misplaced comma in my brother’s writing, while overlooking the split infinitives in mine!
Hmmmm. LOL
