Back to the Garden

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. John 15:1

Back in 1970 Joni Mitchell wrote the now unforgettable song titled “Woodstock.” A famous line says; “We’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.” Perhaps today in the midst of rioting, shutdowns and general societal chaos a lot of us feel that same longing to be able to get back to that first garden… the Garden of Eden. Though I have always loved Joni Mitchell both as a song writer and singer; the hope for returning to the innocence of creation’s garden doesn’t lie within ourselves. The path to that place runs through another garden where the body of our crucified Lord was buried. There on the third day when they came to find Him He was not to be found (At least not at first). He Knows My Name!

Heaven’s Rest

Heaven’s Rest

The Sabbath was a gift to man

Since creation we could hear

A sound that echoes down our paths

Of God’s footsteps drawing near

For in six mighty days God made

All fins and paws and wings

And His children in a garden there

And tulips for each spring

Then last God paused and gave one day

For us to see we’re blessed

And remember all His work in Christ

And in Christ find Heaven’s Rest!
