11th Christmas Gift

11th Gift –  Star of Bethlehem

When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy Matthew 2:10

The star shone brighter and brighter as the wise men followed it to Bethlehem. They may have paused just over the horizon from Bethlehem, and given thanks for God’s guidance all through their long journey.  sam_0223

As our own 40 day journey to Christmas draws near its end we need to remember all the many times, on our darkest nights that God sent His star. He sends the star to help us know the Savior was born. He sent the star to guide our path to Him. He sent the star to light our way. He sent His star to come and stand over the place where we can come and present our gifts to Him and worship. Thank God for His amazing gift that leads us to Jesus Christ, the bright and morning star!

Eighth Gift of Christmas – Rest

In all the hurry towards Christmas, it is easy for us to forget to rest for a moment at the manger. But He patiently lingered the unhurried nine months in the waiting room of Mary’s womb. Shepherds were the first to know as they rested with their flocks. Then Jesus was born and quietly grew up in the tiny village of Nazareth. He didn’t burst forth with proclamations of greatness but rather in the back of Joseph’s carpenter shop. He had brothers and sisters with whom He had to share a straw mattress on the floor and what simple meals were put before them. Never do we hear of a complaint, or detect an attitude of frustration. Jesus simply waited for the day when His work would begin and rested in the place where God had placed Him. It was there in Nazareth that He learned to give thanks for bread and fish. In the ordinary circumstances of His quiet life He learned how to wash feet, celebrate weddings and how to handle wood and nails. The same God who in Christ rested in the boat in the storm has also invited us to come and rest our souls in Him!  p1010967

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls Matthew 11:29

10th gift of Christmas

MERCY – The 10 Christmas Gift

Luke 15:10 …But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him

Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy!

Mercy may seem plain and ordinary, to the outside observer; but to the one who receives it Mercy is the most astonishingly beautiful thing on earth!

Mercy Is –

A life-saving pint of blood from a stranger

A handful of tissues when our tears start to flow

A silent embrace when our world fell apart

The light at the door when we come home after dark

A kiss of acceptance from someone we’ve hurt

A check in the mail when we’ve been out of work

Angel songs in the night when we’re out in the field

And a Babe in the manger who’s the Savior of the world!
