2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
When Paul tells Timothy that he has kept the faith, ask yourself, “kept for what?” Now picture the Olympic games being played today in Rio de Janeiro just as they were played in Greece in the time of the early church. At the very beginning of the games the Olympic torch is lit from a flame carried by one of the runners. Just as each torch bearer passes the living fire on until the torch is lit, so Paul prepares Timothy for the next leg of the race. Paul has run his part of the relay and he extends the torch to Timothy with the eternal flame of faith. “I have kept the faith! It is trusted to you now. Keep the fire burning!”
