And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Colossians 4:3
At church we often pray for God to open doors. We pray for doors to be opened for a new job, a new home or an opportunity to begin a business. But Paul was concerned about a doorway for the Gospel. Today we are begin a series on doorways starting with the doorway of friendship.
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity Proverbs 17:17
It is okay to be friends with people outside of our church. In fact Jesus was known as the friend of sinners! He was often scandalously invited to dine with notable sinners and had his feet washed by a woman with the reputation of being a sinner. If we are planning on bringing the gospel message to our communities then we need to be knocking on the doors of all kinds of people. Jesus always seemed to be totally comfortable around people that the religious people did not think highly of. Jesus was often criticized for the company he kept but he was not ashamed.
This is a new week and God will be leading each of us down a pathway known only to Him. Let’s together trust Him to be a friend to those He sends our way and share with them the same hope that He was not ashamed to share with us!
