When peace like a river attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
I love standing with my toes in the sand watching and feeling the crashing of the waves onto the shore. Unseen to our eye is the bottom of the wave which is scraping along the sandy bottom being pushed back while our eye sees the top cresting over and rushing up onto the beach. In the same way the power of sorrow has its moment as it comes rushing onto the shore of our heart. It scrapes along the bottom of our memories fighting to bring up the pain and loss which we are struggling with daily to push back out to sea. Then come the wave tops of tears crashing forward uninvited to our daily routine.
In the coldness of the sea breeze is a shiver of regret but up on the edge of the horizon in the sunset is the calm assurance of God’s eternal promise:
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope 1 Thessalonians 4:13
